Founder Story

Armani Bumpus built this program from lived experience.

My name is Armani Bumpus, Director and founder of the Brooklyn Wildcats. Over the past 12 years, our program has supported and encouraged young inner-city urban kids to pursue higher education.

Many of our student-athletes come from NYCHA housing, including myself. I know the daily struggles our kids face because I grew up around the same realities. I started Brooklyn Wildcats to help kids who wanted a different future for themselves and their families.

Athletics is the platform. The mission is education, access, safety, structure, and opportunity.

Proven Impact

12 years of turning exposure into education.

Brooklyn Wildcats has helped more than 60 kids reach college, with many continuing on to earn second and even third degrees.

Program Mission

Give student-athletes a safe structure and a fairer shot at college.

For many of our kids, basketball is the bridge to a degree and a chance to compete in the workforce on equal footing with their peers.

The program helps players leave their immediate surroundings, compete in front of scouts, build discipline, and see possibilities beyond their housing complex or block.

In September 2024, one of our student-athletes was gunned down in Fort Greene Projects while going to the store in his community. That is the real threat our kids face. This program gives them a safe haven, even when that safe haven is just a weekend away.

Current Event Status

The opportunity is real. The cost is putting the program at risk.

Just this past weekend, Brooklyn Wildcats spent $11,500 to travel to Boston for a national Puma tournament. Our kids from Brooklyn competed, were scouted, and earned another chance to be seen for scholarship opportunities.
